The International Conference on Low Carbon Asia is an annual conference that includes various topics with invited speakers in the fields of Sustainable Energy Systems, Sustainable Agriculture, Sustainable Urban Waste & Water Management, Nexus and Circular Economy and Cleaner Technology.

The first conference was initiated by the University Technology of Malaysia (UTM) in collaboration with LoCARNet (Low Carbon Asia Research Network, IGES, Japan) in the year 2015 while the subsequent series were held in Kuala Lumpur (2016), Bangkok (2017), Johor Bahru (2018), Ho Chi Minh City (2019), Shanghai (2020-Online), Johor Bahru (2021-Online), Manila (2022-Online) and Okayama (2023). Continually UTM serves as the main secretariat as championed by Prof Ho Chin Siong, Director of UTM Low Carbon Asia Research Centre and his team.  The main agenda of ICLCA is for stakeholders from academia, government and industry to discuss and share knowledge on the state-of-the-art advancement of sustainable development and net-zero emissions development in Asia and beyond. The opening ceremony is often graced by a City Mayor’s Forum with mayor panellists from Asian countries. ICLCA typically bring together approximately 200 low-carbon society researchers and stakeholders to exchange knowledge on sustainable development. The event is often joined by up to 40 mayors and their officers during the Mayor’s forum.

Industry partners often support ICLCA by joining ICLCA’s exhibition and networking sessions and also as speakers. They also serve as the sponsors. Industry’s involvement marks a vital testimony to ICLCA, where the conference serves as a vibrant platform to expedite industry-driven projects for net-zero emission development and research collaboration.  The commitment is significant towards promoting transformation and governance of low-carbon societies in Asia and beyond.
